LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Travelers looking for an inexpensive place to stay will soon find an unusual destination in Little Rock. The city's first hostel is under construction and will house 30 guests at one of the capital city's most historic locations. Click on the picture above to see the entire documentary and video.

Hostelling Arkansas has received a $100,000 grant for the Firehouse Hostel from a private foundation. This money is designated for construction only. We will need more donations to complete the renovations and for furnishings and supplies. We are grateful for the monies received to date. Thank you to all that have already contributed.
This brings the total raised to date over $200,000. Renovations are under way at present time.
Budget Goal to complete renovation and opening the Firehouse Hostel: $362,000

Work begins to repair areas on exterior of building.

New revised layouts drawn up after bringing staircase to the inside of the building. Scope of work on exterior repairs begins to take shape
January 2010:
We start on the Firehouse Hostel Building to convert it into an active Hostel.
- Contract let on asbestos removal work: completed by Snyder Environmental.
- Demo work started and debris removal has begun on first and second floors.
- Locals, firefighters and volunteers of the hostel all pitch in
Uncovered a lot of history in the taking down of walls and clearing out the trash …
- like the hinge imprints from the old bay doors
- hanger imprints left from old pictures
- exposed the original white fire brick on the inside of the first floor
- cleaning the walls and bricks has added a whole new appearance to the historic nature of the hostel
1-12-2009:
Just had a great fundraiser at Lilly's Dim Sum Restaurant where 15% of the days proceeds go to the Firehouse Hostel. Great food, great people, great cause!!!!! Thanks to Kathy & Nancy.Lilly's is located in the Market Place Shopping Center, 11121 Rodney Parham Road in Little Rock.
Oct 2008:
Linda Fordyce: one of the founding members of the Firehouse Hostel was involved in an automobile accident. She has made a great recovery!
