Petit Jean State Park
Petit Jean State Park is the oldest state park in Arkansas, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a place of rugged natural beauty, first inhabited by Native Americans over 1,000 years ago. Their pictographs remain in a large rock shelter, high on the back wall. There are 10 different hiking trails that will take you through hardwood forests, by streams and small canyons and rock bluffs. Distances are as short as a quarter of a mile all the way up to 12 miles, with levels of difficulty to suit everyone. It is a little over an hour’s drive from the hostel. For directions click here.
